Bioinformatics is the use of computers in solving the problems in the biological and medical sciences. It mainly involves the creation of extensive electronic databases on genomes, protein sequences etc. It, also, involves techniques such as three-dimensional modelling of bio-molecules and biological systems.

The objective of this programme is

(1)to get an overall exposure to various facets of the ‘frontier science’ called Bioinformatics
(2)to acquire conceptual knowledge of the vast scope of Bioinformatics reflecting the true interdisciplinary nature
(3)to understand the potential applications of bioinformatics in the field of medicine, forensics, agriculture and biotech and biopharmaceutical industries.
