Ashok Iyer is an Architect – Academician from Mumbai, India and joined the Department of Interior Design, Manipal University - Dubai Campus as the Chairperson and Assistant Professor of in August 2004. He is currently pursuing his PhD. in Architectural & Design Education from the Welsh School of Architecture, Cardiff University, United Kingdom; since July 2011. He was a full time faculty member at Sir JJ College of Architecture & Rizvi College of Architecture in Mumbai. A member of the Council of Architecture & an Associate of the Indian Institute of Architects, he has worked with Patki & Dardarkar Chartered Architects, Mumbai, India.
A graduate from the Pillais’ College of Architecture, Navi Mumbai; in 1997, he completed his Masters in Architecture (By research) from Sir J.J. College of Architecture, Mumbai in 2004. The area of research was based on the study of energy efficiency and sustainable development and its application within the urban context of the Mumbai metropolitan region. He has also done his P.G. Diploma in Indian Aesthetics from the Department of Philosophy, University of Mumbai; in 2001. His core areas of specialization include visual theory & design fundamentals in architectural and interior design, climatology and history of architecture.
He has been a member of the Editorial Committee for the Journal of Indian Institute of Architects (2002-04)and has presented research papers at international and national Conferences on Architecture, Design & Planning. His articles have been published in reputed journals including the JIIA andmagazines in India & UAE. He was invited as a jury for the NASA – Journalism Trophy in Jan 2012 and was a resource person in the twelve-member committee on Solar Passive Architecture;invited by IIT-Bombay in April 1999.His other areas of interests include visual arts, philately, numismatics and fountain pens.
