The Department of Media and Communication, Manipal University Dubai Campus has been able to establish itself as a formidable media school in the Middle East within a short span of time since its inception in Spring 2005. From its early days of 70 students, it has become one of the most sought after courses in Manipal University Dubai Campus today with over 180 students and still growing. The first batch of students graduated in 2008, with many of them being recruited by leading media houses in the Middle East and beyond.

The courses offered by the Department of Media and Communication combine the highest caliber of experienced and qualified faculty and latest technological equipment and software to allow graduate and post graduate students to specialize in the fields of Advertising, Public Relations, Television Production, Journalism and Visual Communication.

The Department today is at par with any frontline media institution in the Middle East and is equipped with modern classrooms with audio visual facilities, post production labs, News lab, IT lab and a Multimedia lab. The Department of Media and Communication works closely with the University library to provide students access to an extensive collection of the latest media books, manuals, magazines, reference guides, films and documentaries.

Given the department's initial success and the growing demand for media professionals in the middle-eastern region, it has further upgraded facilities and introduced new courses. The department has also initiated Arabic as a functional language mandatory for all Media and Communication students to give them a competitive edge in the Middle East media market.

Highly qualified and dedicated faculty members are one of the key factors for the department’s continued success and growth. The students have supplemented the institution's pursuit of excellence by being recognized by outside institutions and the industry for their individual talents and achievements. The department regularly co-operates with professionals and media institutions in the region and abroad to conduct professional developmental programmes, media workshops, seminars and symposiums. The department's annual showcase event Spectrum, campaigns and media outreach programs are eagerly awaited both by the industry and student community. The Department places great emphasis on creating an awareness of global communication processes transforming India and the gulf region and exposes the students to the opportunities thus presented.
