MAHE Dubai Inaugurates Danube Conservation Lab for sustainable building material

The Danube Centre for Sustainable Building Materials was inaugurated by Dr. H. Vinod Bhat, Vice Chancellor, Manipal Academy of Higher Education on 28th October as an initiative towards academia industry collaboration. The students of School of Engineering & IT and School of Design & Architecture were given an opportunity to design the Center through a competition; 13 teams participated, and 6 teams were short listed to present the final concept

The Winning team comprising of Rohit Kumawat, Batul Shabbir, Vishnu Manoj and Sanjana Ajit from the School of Design & Architecture were given an opportunity to build their concept to reality. The team comprising of Nihala Hashir, Amandeep Sasan and Vaheeda Noor won the second position in the competition. The winning team were guided by Mr Swamy Kannappan, Group Head – Procurement and Mr Ashish, Head, Plywood Division who guided the students on selection of the materials and extended all their support for building the space. The students were awarded prizes sponsored by Danube.

 

The concept of space based on interaction and inspiration drawn from honeycomb pattern, invites young minds to explore creativity and research on sustainable building materials. The materials used were Danube products such as melamine faced chip board for the hexagon wall, OSB partition, Green marble laminate wall, nano tech matt tables and laminate flooring. This space was divided into four zones - meeting space, library space, digitalizing area and space for relaxing. Mr. Arif Bhaldar, Head PR, Danube discussed on the role of sustainability in today’s context. Dr. H. Vinod Bhat, Vice Chancellor, Manipal Academy of Higher Education spoke on the importance of academia and industry collaboration. The event was attended by Dr. H. S. Ballal, Pro Chancellor, Dr Narayana Sabhahit, Registrar, Manipal Academy of Higher Education. Dr. S. V. Kota Reddy, Academic President, Manipal Academy of Higher Education Dubai Campus mentioned that this collaboration will enhance further research on sustainable building materials.
