Staff members of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) Dubai, along with their families, came together on campus to celebrate India’s Independence Day in a gathering that reflected community, gratitude and remembrance.
The celebration brought colleagues and their families together to honour the sacrifices and contributions of India’s freedom fighters. It also served as a reminder of the importance of remembering history, respecting one’s roots and passing those values on to future generations.
The gathering held added significance in the UAE’s Year of the Family, reinforcing the idea that institutions are strengthened not only by the people who work within them, but also by the families and communities that support them.
During the celebration, participants expressed their gratitude towards India’s freedom fighters and remembered the determination, resilience and collective effort that shaped the country’s journey towards independence.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. S. Sudhindra, Pro Vice Chancellor, MAHE Dubai, reflected on the importance of being able to mark such occasions while living and working in the UAE. He expressed his gratitude to the UAE leadership and government for creating an inclusive environment where communities from different nationalities are able to celebrate their heritage, history and cultural identity with pride.
He also highlighted that gatherings such as these provide an opportunity to pay homage to those who contributed to India’s freedom while ensuring that future generations remain connected to the country’s history.
Dr. Sudhindra emphasised that while it is important to look ahead and plan for the future, individuals should remain grounded in the lessons of the past. Remembering history, living meaningfully in the present and preparing responsibly for the future, he noted, are all equally important.
The Independence Day celebration at MAHE Dubai reflected the spirit of togetherness that defines the campus community. By bringing staff members and their families together, the event created a meaningful space to remember India’s freedom struggle, celebrate shared values and strengthen the sense of belonging within the wider MAHE Dubai community.
