
MAHE Dubai congratulates Dr. Sowmya Rao from the School of Life Sciences on the publication of her co-authored research paper, “Targeting Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) Pathophysiology with Flavonoids: From Adipokine–Cytokine Crosstalk to Insulin Resistance and Reproductive Dysfunctions.” The study appears in Journal of Pharmaceuticals (Impact Factor 4.8, Q1).
Why it matters?
PCOS affects millions of women worldwide and is closely linked to metabolic inflammation, insulin resistance, and reproductive dysfunction. The paper reviews how flavonoids - bioactive compounds found in many plant foods - may modulate adipokine–cytokine crosstalk, reduce inflammatory signaling, and improve insulin sensitivity, offering a promising adjunct pathway for prevention and therapy. The authors also map mechanistic targets and research gaps to inform future clinical translation.
