Sudhindra, Pro Vice Chancellor of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) – Dubai, to discuss the university’s strategic goals, evolving academic focus, and the role of innovation in shaping higher education. 1. Can you tell us about your journey in education and how it led you to your current role?
My journey in education has always been rooted in a deep belief in the transformative power of learning. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working across diverse academic and leadership roles, each reinforcing my passion for innovation, inclusivity, and student-centric development. Taking on the role of Academic President at Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Dubai Campus has allowed me to bring that vision to life - driving strategic growth while nurturing a community where academic excellence and holistic learning go hand-in-hand.
2. What makes your institution stand out in the competitive landscape of UAE higher education?
MAHE Dubai stands apart because of our 25-year legacy of academic excellence, innovation, and inclusivity in Dubai. As the first international campus of Manipal India, we have built a multicultural learning environment with students from over 50 nationalities. We are licensed by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and rated 5 stars by Knowledge & Human Development Authority (KHDA), Dubai. Our programs span across several disciplines and over 50 programs, integrating global exposure, industry relevance, and hands-on learning. Our strong focus on research, sustainability, and student wellbeing has consistently positioned us among the top choices for higher education in the region.
3. How does your institution incorporate innovation and technology into its academic offerings and campus environment?
At MAHE Dubai, innovation is not an afterthought; it’s a mindset that drives everything we do. We have a dedicated Fintech Studio and Stock Trading Lab that allows students to gain hands-on exposure to financial trading and real-time data analytics. Our AR/VR Lab brings learning to life through immersive simulations and interactive digital environments for our design & architecture students.
We also integrate globally recognized certifications into our curriculum through our partnership with Kaplan MENA, ensuring our graduates leave with both academic knowledge and industry-ready skills. These initiatives reflect our commitment to creating a future-focused academic environment where students are empowered to lead through technology and innovation.
4. How do you ensure that your graduates are prepared for the future job market, both locally and globally?
We offer a 360° support system that prioritizes academic achievement, career readiness, and personal well-being.
Our Career Services Department provides personalized guidance through internships, workshops, employer meetups, and mock interviews. We also offer access to Infylearn, an AI-powered platform where students can prepare for real-world job interviews, receive AI-generated CV feedback, take part in simulated interviews, and receive tailored improvement suggestions, helping them build confidence and sharpen their employability skills. As a result, over 9500 MAHE Dubai Alumni, driving change across industry.
5. What role does research play at your institution, and how do you support students and faculty in their research endeavors?
We place strong emphasis on nurturing innovation, research, and entrepreneurial thinking across disciplines. We encourage both students and faculty to move beyond theoretical learning and actively engage with real-world challenges through research projects, idea incubation, and collaborative problem-solving.
A key aspect of this culture is the active involvement of our faculty and students in publishing their work in reputed international journals. These research contributions not only reflect the academic rigour at our institution but also help address pressing global issues. Our research spans a wide spectrum, encompassing cancer studies as well as core engineering disciplines.
We also promote entrepreneurship through mentorship programs, access to startup support networks, and opportunities to participate in national and international competitions. Our aim is to cultivate future-ready graduates who are not only employable but capable of becoming job creators and innovators. We also have the Center of Interdisciplinary Studies, that encourages collaborative thinking and teamwork across multiple disciplines.
6. How important is student wellbeing and campus life at your institution?
Student wellbeing is a top priority. Our campus is more than just a place to study - it’s a vibrant, supportive environment for students of 50+ nationalities. We offer modern sports and recreational facilities, over 40 student-led clubs, and the Wellness Hub, which provides mental health support and life-skills workshops. We believe in nurturing well-rounded individuals. Our students consistently tell us that the sense of belonging they feel at MAHE Dubai is what drives their personal and academic growth.
7. What partnerships or collaborations have had a significant impact on your institution's growth and reputation?
Strategic collaborations have played a key role in our journey. The VCATI partnership has allowed us to expand into aviation training - an area with soaring demand in the region. Our association with Kaplan MENA enhances our business and finance offerings, and our UAE Filmmakers Hub with Cininfo is opening doors in the creative industries. These partnerships aren’t just symbolic - they offer students direct access to industry mentorship, facilities, and career opportunities.
8. How do you see the future of higher education evolving in the UAE and how is your institution adapting to these changes?
The UAE is rapidly emerging as a global education hub, and we are evolving with it. We are continually redesigning our curriculum to reflect these changes, ensuring our students remain competitive globally. Being licensed by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and on track for full CAA accreditation, enables us to offer interdisciplinary programs that align with national priorities. We’re not just keeping up - we’re helping shape the future of education in the region. With a legacy evolving over 75 years, Manipal’s unique culture of academic excellence, innovation, and inclusivity is deeply rooted in the hearts of its community - shaping not just careers, but characters.

My vision is to make MAHE Dubai a global beacon for inclusive innovation and student success. We’re building on our strong foundation with a focus on digital transformation, industry-aligned programs, and impactful research. As an institution, our vision is to be a globally preferred institution delivering best-in-class learning experience, fostering critical thinking, enterprise, innovation and social responsibility. Initiatives like our sustainability drive, Race to Zero campaign, and new-age labs demonstrate our commitment to the future. What excites me most is seeing our students and faculty push boundaries - because when they thrive, the world notices.
