On 30th Sept and 1st of October 2025, the University Campus came alive with the hum of tools, and collaborative energy as our 2nd and 3rd year Bachelor of Architecture students participated in the Construction Yard Activity. This immersive, hands - on event transformed theory into tactile learning, allowing students to engage directly with bricks, mortar, and steel.
First-year students participated as keen observers, absorbing the rhythms of site work and material behavior in real time. Students explored material handling and masonry tasks, translating drawings into scaled assemblies and prototypes. The third year seniors took charge, orchestrating site planning, mentoring juniors, and leading full-scale mock-ups with impressive precision and care.
The vertical studio format fostered peer learning and camaraderie, with seniors guiding juniors through tool safety, ergonomic practices, and construction ethics. Activities included brick bonding, reinforcement tying and shuttering, each task reinforcing the connection between design intent and built reality.
Students documented their processes, reflected on challenges, and explored sustainable practices like material reuse and waste reduction. The yard became a living classroom - buzzing with teamwork, craftsmanship, and the messy joy of making. This two-day event wasn’t just about mixing mortar - it was about mixing minds, mentoring across levels, and building the foundations of architectural wisdom, one brick at a time.
