Outstanding student innovation and university-led sustainability efforts were celebrated at the CIBSE MENA Awards 2025, where two major honours were secured in recognition of cutting-edge design and impactful climate action.
The Student Design Competition was won by Team Regen, a group of MAHE Dubai students whose project focused on reimagining a UAE hotel through an intelligent building retrofit solution. Their concept integrated smart HVAC optimisation, IoT-based automation, and AI-enabled systems to reduce energy consumption, enhance guest comfort, and deliver long-term operational efficiency. The jury highlighted the project for its technical depth, creativity, and real-world relevance in the region’s hospitality sector.
In the institutional category, the Sustainable Initiative – Universities award was presented to “Classroom to Climate Action,” an initiative led by the university’s Centre for ESG in collaboration with the Manipal Environment Conservation Society. The programme equips students with hands-on experience through climate literacy workshops, ESG projects, and community-driven sustainability campaigns. Its impact extends beyond campus through partnerships with schools across the UAE, empowering young learners to design and implement climate solutions.
These two recognitions underscore the growing influence of student-driven research, intelligent building design, and sustainability education across the region. Both award-winning initiatives reflect MAHE Dubai’s commitment to building a future-ready campus culture that blends innovation, ESG values, and industry collaboration.
The achievements mark a milestone for the institution’s academic ecosystem, highlighting the role of young engineers, designers, and climate advocates in advancing sustainable development in the UAE.
