Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) Dubai Campus is proud to share that Dr. Shaji, Associate Professor at the School of Design & Architecture, has had his watercolor painting, “Give us this day our daily fish,” selected for exhibition at Fabriano in Acquarello 2026 in Italy.
Fabriano in Acquarello is widely regarded as one of the world’s most significant international platforms for watercolor art, bringing together a curated selection of artists from across the globe. Dr. Shaji’s selection stands as a meaningful recognition of his artistic practice and contributes to MAHE Dubai’s growing presence within international creative and academic circles.
The painting is a personal tribute rooted in memory and place. Inspired by a poetic reference to Pablo Neruda’s Ode to the Sea, the work portrays “Kadar-ikka,” the local fisherman who delivers the daily catch to Dr. Shaji’s mother’s neighbourhood in Guruvayur. Through its subject and title, the piece reflects themes of humble sustenance, quiet routine, and the dignity of everyday life - presented through watercolor with sensitivity and restraint.
Speaking on the recognition, Dr. Shaji shared that exhibiting at Fabriano in Acquarello is a career milestone, and he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to present a deeply personal work on a global stage.
At MAHE Dubai, faculty contributions extend beyond the classroom, shaping a learning environment enriched by professional practice, creative inquiry, and global engagement. Dr. Shaji’s achievement reflects the role of arts and design in advancing conversations on culture, community, and contemporary expression - aligned with the university’s emphasis on interdisciplinary learning.
