Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) Dubai students recently participated in an enriching academic and cultural exchange programme at INTI International University, Nilai, Malaysia, as part of a four-week international learning experience.

The journey began on 31 May 2026, with a group of 23 students, accompanied by faculty mentor Dr. Subburaj, travelling from Sharjah to Kuala Lumpur. Upon arrival at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, the students were warmly received by the team at INTI International University and escorted to the university hostel in Nilai, which became their home for the duration of the programme.

The study tour was designed to provide students with meaningful exposure beyond the classroom, combining academic workshops, cultural immersion, peer learning, industry-relevant sessions, and site visits across Malaysia. Through this experience, students were able to engage with a multicultural learning environment and gain new perspectives on business, communication, sustainability, culture, and global collaboration.

The official university experience began with a welcome ceremony at INTI International University, where students received welcome kits and were introduced to the campus through a detailed tour. The students explored INTI’s academic blocks, Learning Resource Centre, student residences, and campus facilities, giving them an understanding of student life in Malaysia.

As part of the cultural learning component, students participated in a Malay Language Workshop conducted by Ms. Hafizah and Ms. Hannani, where they learned everyday Malay words and phrases. This was followed by sessions on traditional Malaysian music, led by Mr. Yuzaimuddin, and traditional games such as Congkak and Batu Seremban, conducted by Ms. Amanda and Ms. Hannani. These workshops allowed students to understand Malaysian heritage through interactive and hands-on activities.

The programme also included an insightful workshop on Cultural and Social Diversity conducted by Dr. Jason See Toh, where students explored the importance of respecting differences and living harmoniously in multicultural societies. The session encouraged students to reflect on inclusivity, cultural understanding, and the value of diverse learning communities.

A key highlight of the learning journey was the Laser Cutting Workshop conducted by Mr. Yong Thian Haw, where students designed and engraved their own names on wooden pieces using laser cutting technology. The session gave students a creative and practical introduction to digital design and fabrication.

Students also attended a series of academic sessions that strengthened their business, communication, and analytical skills. These included Business Ethics and Law by Mr. Harpajan Singh Tara Singh, Global Digital Entrepreneurship by Dr. Bahiah A. Malek, Strategic Management by Dr. Nor Shamri Ithnin, Concepts of Business by Dr. Shamala Krishnan and Ms. Kiranjeet Kaur, and Mass Communication by Dr. Saheera Sardar Mohamed.

The classroom experience became even more meaningful as students collaborated with peers from different countries, including Malaysia, China, Vietnam, and other international backgrounds. Group discussions, presentations, and team-based tasks helped students build confidence, teamwork, communication skills, and cross-cultural understanding.

The study tour also placed strong emphasis on sustainability and personal reflection. In a session led by AP. Dr. Rajani Balakrishnan, students reflected on the question, “Where do you see yourself in five years?” The discussion encouraged them to think about their future aspirations while understanding the importance of responsibility, sustainability, and staying true to their values.

In addition to academic sessions, the students explored several iconic cultural and historical locations in Malaysia. Their excursions included visits to Batu Caves, a Batik Painting Centre, Central Market, Putra Mosque, Thean Hou Temple, the Friday Night Market, Malacca, Beryl’s Chocolate Factory, and KLCC, where they experienced the Petronas Twin Towers.

These visits gave students an opportunity to experience Malaysia’s rich cultural identity, architecture, traditions, local food, and historical landmarks. From learning about batik-making and exploring street markets to walking through the heritage city of Malacca, every experience contributed to a deeper understanding of Malaysia’s social and cultural landscape.

The programme reflected MAHE Dubai’s commitment to creating learning opportunities that go beyond textbooks and classrooms. Through international exposure, students were able to connect academic learning with real-world experiences, build friendships across cultures, and develop a broader global outlook.

The Malaysia study tour also strengthened the spirit of collaboration between MAHE Dubai and INTI International University, creating a platform for students to engage in global learning, cultural exchange, and personal development.

For the students, the first two weeks marked the beginning of an unforgettable journey filled with learning, exploration, teamwork, and friendship. The experience gave them memories to cherish and perspectives that will continue to shape their academic and professional journeys.
