MAHE Dubai Students Win Green Entrepreneurship Program for Food Waste Start-up
Dubai, UAE – 24 June 2025:
Students from the Manipal Environmental and Climate Society (MECS) at Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) Dubai have been named champions of the Green Entrepreneurship Program, hosted by Ajman University at the Ajman Youth Hub.
Their winning initiative, LoopBite, is a circular economy platform designed to tackle the UAE’s $3.5 billion food waste crisis. The solution enables households, farms, and businesses to convert food scraps into compost using smart waste collection and a gamified rewards app. The team was awarded AED 5,000 and will now enter the incubation phase, receiving mentorship from Ajman University and key industry stakeholders.
Co-founded by students and recent graduates from MAHE Dubai, Ajman University, and Abu Dhabi University, the LoopBite team includes:
Mohamed Nihmathullah (MAHE Dubai, CEO)
Nazmi Nazar (MAHE Dubai, CIO)
Mohammed Abushaban (Ajman University, COO)
Syrin Alabrach (Abu Dhabi University, Communications & Finance)
Dr. Bhakti More, Head of the Centre for ESG at MAHE Dubai, said:
“This is a proud moment for MAHE Dubai and reflects our commitment to sustainability, innovation, and community impact.”
LoopBite supports the UAE’s goals to halve food waste by 2030, in alignment with its Net Zero 2050 mission. The initiative joins a growing movement including the UAE Food Bank, which diverted over 5,000 tonnes of food in 2024.
This win further strengthens MAHE Dubai’s role as a regional sustainability leader, with ongoing recognition from the Environment Agency Abu Dhabi, CIBSE UAE, and others. Through its Centre for ESG, MAHE Dubai continues to empower student-led innovations that drive real-world impact.
