The award-winning team comprised Ms. Edna Marie Obtinalla, a second-year MDes Sustainable Design student, along with faculty members Ms. Dipti Shukla and Ms. Shaghi Nair.
Their research poster, titled “Smart Home Lighting in Residential Villas: A Review of Sensor Technologies, Energy Efficiency, and Occupant Comfort,” received the Bronze Award under Category B1: Master – Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

The international competition brought together 166 entries from seven countries, including Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Thailand, Türkiye, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar. Each submission was evaluated by at least two members of a panel comprising 57 appointed jurors.
The achievement reflects SODA’s continued emphasis on research-led learning and the exploration of sustainable, technology-driven solutions within the built environment. The recognition also highlights the collaborative efforts of students and faculty in addressing emerging challenges related to energy efficiency, smart technologies and occupant wellbeing.
MAHE Dubai congratulates Ms. Edna Marie Obtinalla, Ms. Dipti Shukla and Ms. Shaghi Nair on this international recognition and wishes them continued success in their research and academic pursuits.
